Membership Application for membership in Missouri University Retirees Association

Dear Prospective Member:

The Missouri University Retirees Association (MURA) is making a special effort to inform retirees of MURA membership and its many benefits.

MURA was started in 1990 so that University retirees would have an organization to represent them to the University administration. MURA provides constant monitoring of retiree issues, especially pensions and insurance. MURA officers regularly meet with administrators of the campus and the system. Each year we work with administrators and key committees to review new programs and to see that ongoing programs are properly funded. It is important to keep our benefits comparable to those at other universities. It is important to know what is happening at the federal and state levels that impacts retirement. It is important that as many retirees as possible join MURA so that this work will continue.

We also meet often with legislators in Jefferson City. We need to keep the interests of retirees continually before our elected officials. And, when meeting with legislators, “the number of members” MURA represents is very important.

Membership in MURA is open to all University of Missouri staff and faculty who are 55 years old or older and who are “fully vested in the retirement plan.” Membership is available to Extension, USDA, Hospital and UM System personnel. Anyone who is fully vested or retired from any of the operations governed by the Curators of the University of Missouri may join MURA.

Membership provides valuable communication for retirees. Our newsletter, MURA NEWS, is published three times annually. It contains information on current MURA activities, reports on issues about retirement, and interesting information, targeted to members. In addition to the newsletters, members who provide a valid email address will receive electronic updates as they become available.  These updates will include reminders for upcoming events, the Chancellor’s Weekly Update, Mizzou Weekly and MU Info to name a few examples.

Communication is further enhanced on this Web site, where you can find copies of previous MURA newsletters, invitations to current events, reports, and a comprehensive list of resources available to retirees.

  • Fall organizational meeting
  • Monthly breakfast programs
  • December Holiday Lunch
  • Special events
  • Spring picnic
  • Annual spring meeting
  • Social mixers
  • Day Trips

MURA partners with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute to offer classes and for seniors. Topics such as Shakespeare, music, home horticulture, computers, creative writing, investing, travel, globalization and much more are offered.

MURA needs you so we can continue to be a vital voice for retirees on campus. I believe you, too, need MURA as an advocate for your benefits and to keep you advised of current updates.

Membership is very affordable, with $7.50 for an annual membership and $75 for a life membership—the best deal going! As a life member your cost per year decreases as you age. Spouses are invited to join at the same low rates.  As a special incentive for newly retired individuals to join MURA, your membership will be free for the year of your retirement but you do still need to fill out an application.

Just click on the link on this site to print an application (Membership Application) and return it with your check today. I look forward to welcoming you as a new member of MURA!
