The Internment Experience: Mike Hosokawa
Mike Hosokawa, EdD, MU Professor Emeritus, Family and Community Medicine, will speak about his experience as a Japanese American forced into internment camp as child during WWII for April 1.
On February 19, 1942, Executive Order 9066 forced 120,000 individuals of Japanese ancestry off the West Coast into 10 camps surrounded by barbed wire and guard towers. Most of 120,000 were American citizens, like Mike, by birth. There were no criminal charges filed, there were no trials. Constitutional rights were suspended based on race. Mike will describe this experience through the eyes of a child.
At the April 2024 Board meeting, the Board approved making the Breakfast Zoom webinar and the live recording of the event available for FREE to members; however preregistration is required.
