—Registration and Payment deadline for the April breakfast is March 29.
Judith Miles, M.D., Ph.D., is a University of Missouri-Columbia Professor Emerita, Child Health-Genetics. At our April breakfast Dr. Miles will speak on “Catatonic Regression in Down Syndrome – an unrecognized & treatable cause of Regression.” Hundreds of Down Syndrome (DS) adolescents and young adults are being erroneously diagnosed with early Alzheimers disease, for which there is no treatment. Recent findings suggest that when young people with DS and other neurodevelopmental disorders regress the correct diagnosis is usually Catatonia. The good news is that Catatonia is treatable. Dr. Miles will examine reasons why it has been easy to miss Catatonia in this unexpected patient cohort and how psychiatry impacts general medicine.
NOTE: All MURA Breakfasts are held at the Country Club of Missouri, 1300 Woodrail Ave, Columbia, MO 65203.
